Why Unity Matters for Children in the Eastern Panhandle

Every year in the Eastern Panhandle, more than 800 children move through abuse and neglect cases in our court system. Behind each case number is a child navigating uncertainty — changes in homes, schools, caregivers, and routines. For many, instability becomes their norm.

In the midst of that uncertainty, CASA of the Eastern Panhandle provides something powerful: consistency.

Our trained volunteer advocates step into a child’s life during one of its most difficult seasons. They gather information, meet with teachers and caregivers, attend court hearings, and ensure the judge hears a complete and accurate picture of that child’s needs. Most importantly, they show up as a steady, reliable presence.

That stability changes outcomes.

Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to succeed academically, access needed services, and move toward safe and permanent homes. But the need continues to grow, and so must our community’s response.

That’s why the Unity Campaign powered by United Way of the Eastern Panhandle matters.

The Unity Campaign brings together local nonprofit organizations working in the areas of Youth Opportunity, Healthy Community, and Community Resiliency — the very areas where CASA’s mission lives and breathes every day.

  • Youth Opportunity: Through court advocacy, mentorship, and Fostering Futures Forward programming, we equip youth with life skills, educational support, and encouragement to build stronger futures.

  • Healthy Community: By advocating for children’s safety, mental health, and stability, we help create safer homes and healthier family systems.

  • Community Resiliency: Through prevention services, education advocacy, and post-permanency support, we work to reduce re-entry into foster care and strengthen long-term outcomes.

When you give during the Unity Campaign, your impact grows.

A portion of every dollar that is raised during the Unity Campaign is matched through an Incentive Match Fund, creating even greater impact for the children and families we serve.

In a system that is often stretched beyond capacity, CASA volunteers help ensure that no child’s voice is lost in the chaos. And with your support, we can continue expanding our reach so that more children have someone standing firmly in their corner.

Unity is more than a campaign. It is a commitment to stand together for the most vulnerable members of our community.

Through March 15th, we invite you to be part of that commitment.

Checks must be made payable to United Way of the Eastern Panhandle and postmarked by March 15.  You can also text UNITY2085 to 71777, or you can donate at the link below:
