The Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) is a West Virginia tax credit initiative designed to encourage charitable giving by allowing eligible 501(c)(3) organizations, like CASA-EP, to apply for tax credit vouchers. In 2024, CASA-EP was awarded $15,000 in NIP credit vouchers, which we can distribute to businesses and individuals who support our work with a minimum donation of $500. Donors who qualify will receive a tax credit voucher equal to 50% of their gift amount, potentially reducing their West Virginia tax liability by up to 50%.
This unique tax benefit makes giving to CASA-EP more accessible and impactful. For instance, a $1,000 donation results in an actual out-of-pocket cost of just $500— and even less if you itemize deductions on your federal tax return. With this support, CASA-EP can expand its essential advocacy for children in our community, especially those in low-income and highly distressed areas who rely on a consistent, caring adult to champion their best interests.
Qualifications
Any West Virginia resident can participate, but those 72 or older with a Traditional IRA can take advantage of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from their IRA to receive NIP tax credits. These credits can be applied to reduce state tax liability for both Personal Income Tax and Corporate Net Income Tax.
If you’re interested in making a tax-advantaged gift, your support will help CASA-EP expand its essential advocacy for children in our community who need a dedicated, caring adult to champion their best interests.
