Mentorship in Action: Checking in on CASA-EP’s Mentorship Program

On May 10, CASA of the Eastern Panhandle launched its first Mentorship Training—a new opportunity designed to expand the circle of support for youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

Led by Youth Programs Manager Cari Lefeber and Kim Naiman, CASA-EP’s Education Advocate, the training welcomed five enthusiastic participants who learned how to show up for young people through the lens of connection, consistency, and care.

The session explored the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and introduced practical frameworks including the 40 Developmental Assets and the Developmental Relationships Framework—tools that help mentors understand both the barriers youth face and the ways caring adults can foster resilience.

Since the initial launch, this program has had multiple training groups who are now serving the youth in our area as mentors.

📅 The next training session will take place Saturday, September 13th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the CASA-EP Martinsburg office. Lunch is provided.
