Stepping Forward: CASA-EP’s Shoe Drive Provides Footwear for Kids in Need

Thanks to a generous $500 gift card from Super Shoes in Hagerstown, MD, CASA of the Eastern Panhandle recently launched a shoe drive to support children in need across Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan Counties.

With these funds, CASA was able to purchase dozens of brand-new shoes, helping ensure that youth—many of whom are facing significant challenges—have one less thing to worry about. From school hallways to playgrounds, a sturdy and comfortable pair of shoes can make all the difference in a child’s confidence and well-being.

CASA EP Volunteer Supervisor Mel Stotler, who coordinated the effort, shared,

“It all started when a co-worker mentioned that a child he visited was wearing two different shoes. That moment stuck with me. We realized that if one child was in need, there were probably many more. Our team wanted to do something about it.

Thanks to that conversation—and the incredible generosity of Super Shoes—CASA was gifted a $500 gift card to purchase new shoes for children in foster, kinship, and other placements.

This gift means more than just new shoes—it means dignity, comfort, and care for kids who often go without. We’re so grateful to Super Shoe for stepping in and making such a meaningful difference.”

The shoe drive is just one of many ways CASA-EP supports youth navigating the child welfare system. Whether it’s providing basic necessities or a caring adult to advocate for them, CASA remains committed to helping children move forward with confidence and care.
