May is National Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the more than 390,000 children and youth in foster care across the United States—and to celebrate the families, advocates, and professionals who support them.
At CASA of the Eastern Panhandle, we see the impact of the foster care system every day. We see the challenges—disruption, instability, and the trauma that often brings children into care. But we also see something else: resilience, potential, and a deep need for connection.
That’s where CASA comes in.
Our trained volunteers serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates—trusted adults who build relationships with children in care, listen to their needs, and ensure their voices are heard in the courtroom and beyond. Our goal is simple but powerful: to ensure every child has a consistent, caring adult by their side during one of the most difficult times in their life.
This month, we honor the strength of every child who has experienced foster care, and we recognize the foster families, kinship caregivers, social workers, and mentors who stand with them.
And we recommit ourselves to the work ahead—because there are still too many children without a voice in court. Too many youth aging out without support. Too many young people who’ve never been told they matter.
If you’re looking for a way to make a difference, now is the time.
