INTERVIEW GUIDELINES

BACKGROUND CHECK POLICY

CASA-EP is required by State and National CASA Standards to conduct a local and state criminal background check and CPS/APS record check. Any applicant having a charge or conviction for a crime involving a sex offence or child abuse or neglect is disqualified from being a CASA volunteer. Applicants with other misdemeanor of felony charges or convictions that do not pose a risk to children or negatively impact the credibility of the CASA program will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING TO YOUR INTERVIEW

1. Completed application, if not already submitted.

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Be prepared for tough questions! We will ask you very personal questions about your history and background and thoughts about child abuse and neglect in order to determine your ability and suitability for this work. We ask everyone the same questions, so don’t take it personally! Interviews will be conducted at the CASA office.

Accept Your Invitation to the Next Training Class

CASA-EP currently conducts Volunteer Training Courses in the fall and spring of each year. Our next on-site training class will begin September 10, 2014 and run each consecutive Wednesday 1p.m. to 5p.m. for 9 weeks. The FLEX (online) training option runs concurrent with each on-site training. Please contact the office for more details.

Successfully Complete Your Training Class and Background Screening

Each CASA must successfully pass an intensive national, state and local criminal background screening to include social security verification, Drivers license checks and Child Protective Services checks. These screening are updated on an annual basis in order to remain an active CASA volunteer.

Attend Your Swearing in Ceremony

The 2014 Fall Training swearing-in date is set for November 26, 2014 at 1:30p.m. at the Berkeley County Judicial Complex, Second Floor Courtroom C. The Honorable Judge Michael Lorensen presiding.
