Anne (on left) has been a CASA Volunteer for over 12 years.
When asked recently to describe her journey as an advocate, she offered, “…I became a CASA for selfish reasons…I needed to do volunteer work that would be productive and meaningful to the community… I have been asked if this is something I enjoy. Yes, sometimes. It can also be very sad at times. The best answer I have is that it is satisfying. Children are amazingly resilient, and they give the best hugs.”
Anne has followed her pursuit of assisting vulnerable children, removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect in Berkeley, Morgan, and Jefferson counties through CASA-EP (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
It’s okay to be selfish. It’s alright to pursue a volunteer commitment which is encouraging and satisfying to not only a child, but yourself.
